Northern Edge recognized as Finalist for 2018 M&A Advisor Awards

We are delighted to announce that Northern Edge has again been selected as a finalist in three categories of this year’s M&A Awards given by The M&A Advisor, the world’s premier “think tank” and leadership organization for M&A, restructuring and financing professionals.

The Northern Edge-advised acquisition of Direct Line by an investor group led by Guardian Capital Partners is under consideration for the following categories:

  • Information Technology Deal of The Year ($10 – $50 million)
  • Private Equity Deal of The Year ($10 – $50 million)
  • M&A Deal of The Year ($25 – $50 million).

Headquartered in Fremont, California, Direct Line is a provider of network cabling, infrastructure and staffing services to data centers and other mission critical environments. Direct Line has unique expertise in managing the complexities of installing, designing, and maintaining customized data and fiber optic cabling for data centers across a wide variety of end markets. In pursuing a transaction, the two owners, who will continue to operate the Company, were focused on finding a partner to assist in scaling the business beyond its Silicon Valley roots. They ultimately determined to move forward with Guardian Capital Partners, a well-established private equity firm that has significant experience investing capital to fuel the growth of private businesses.

The process, led by a senior Northern Edge team, was exceptionally well-managed, involving thorough research of potential buyers, robust competition, with interest from both strategic and financial players and creative structuring.

Positive Client Outcomes

Bob Goldsmith, President, CEO and founding partner of Northern Edge, commented:

“Delivering a positive outcome for our clients has always been Northern Edge’s focus, and we are privileged to have worked with the owners of Direct Line and to have assisted them in completing a deal with a desirable partner. The new investors will provide the added resources needed to grow the business and allow the owners to focus on the areas where they add most value. It is very rewarding to also receive peer recognition for our team’s expertise and continued success in complex sell-side transactions.”

Northern Edge is a multiple finalist and past winner of these prestigious accolades. Previous Northern Edge wins include for the advisor’s role in the sale of a majority interest in IPS-Integrated Project Services, Inc. to Alleghany Capital Corporation (Healthcare and Life Sciences Deal of the Year (over $100 million)), and for advising on the sale of Allworld Exhibitions to UBM plc, which won the M&A Deal of the Year (US$250m-$500 million) at the 2017 International M&A Awards.

The 17th Annual M&A Advisor Awards 2018 will take place at the New York Athletic Club, New York City in November 2018.
